Richard Corbett has considerable experience on both sides of the civil litigation field. During approximately 20 years of exclusive practice in the insurance defense field, he has litigated, tried and argued on appeal a diverse mix of cases that span virtually all of the areas of litigation touched upon above including working in the staff counsel offices for Travelers and CIGNA.
Between the fall of 1997 and the spring of 2003, Attorney Corbett spent most of his time handling catastrophic personal injury cases for plaintiffs while working with a small office in Quincy, while also maintaining a defense practice with firms in Boston, MA. His plaintiff’s work included the largest settlement (in excess of $9 million) against the so-called “Big Dig” after three (3) weeks of trial on behalf of a pedestrian struck by a car in the South Station area of Boston, due to faulty traffic design and configuration, and a $4.5 million jury verdict in the summer of 2002 in favor of a woman involved in a serious car accident.
In 2002, Attorney Corbett became a Certified Mediator and has established an alternative dispute resolution service which has been warmly received by the local bar. He is a certified trial advocacy instructor through the National Institute for Trial Advocacy. Attorney Corbett lectures at a variety of continuing legal education programs sponsored by MCLE, the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys and the Boston Bar Association.
